First of all I want to say that you are doing a great job looking after your family.
It's no easy task raising little people these days. Often you are working outside of your home, having to drop your little person off at daycare or school, and then when you finish work, you have to pick him/her up and your workload starts all over again...just in different surroundings.
And then there's those many hats that you wear....mother, partner, friend, nurse, lover, manager of your home...to name just a few. It's no wonder you're always feeling tired.
And there's always a list....a list of things that must be done, a list of things that need to be done, a list of things you'd like to do, and of course, the list of things that never get done! The relentless march of time waits for no-one. If you can't keep up, you get left behind. So, you push on and you push through, always giving more of yourself each day because of your love for your family. But each day you feel the load taking its toll. You're tired, you feel unhappy, you reach for things you know aren't great, but they'll give you the energy you're lacking. And finally, you reach the point that you really don't care anymore...you just have to get through the day.
This scenario is so common in Mums. The problem is, that you want to do everything for your family and you forget about yourself! You always put yourself last, and usually when you do that, there's no time left for you or you're just too darn tired to do anything.
It's easy to point out the things that aren't so great, but I really want you to see that you are as important as the rest of your family and you need to take time for self-care, to look after yourself. The bottom line is this....if you don't take time to care for yourself, who will? And, if you fall in a heap you won't be able to take care of your family.
Taking time to care for yourself is as important as taking the time to look after your family. In fact, it's imperative that you do.
Let me share some simple things you can do to take care of yourself in the midst of your busy life. These 4 things have immense power to help you restore your energy and feel better.
Set aside 20-30 mins at the end of the day when the kids are in bed. Sit quietly in a dimly lit room with a relaxation CD playing, allowing your mind to calm down and your body to relax. Make sure you turn off your phone or leave it somewhere else on silent for this time of quietness. Calming your mind goes a long way to reducing your levels of stress.
One night each week, soak for about 30 minutes in a warm Epsom salts bath. The magnesium it contains will help your muscles relax and improve your sleep.
Find some time in your day to go outside and allow the sun on your skin. This is how we get our vitamin D (which the majority of the population are deficient in). Vitamin D is super important for your mood, as well as cancer prevention.
Put your bare feet in contact with the earth for 20-30 minutes each day if possible. This process of being grounded helps to calm your nervous system and reduce inflammation in your body.
If you can manage to do those 4 things daily (or as many times in the week as possible), you'll start to feel more relaxed, which will lead to you having more energy and clearer thinking. And the best thing is that these 4 things don't cost you anything.
The final thing I want to say is, remember that you are doing the most important job on the face of the earth....you are raising the next generation. There is no other job that can ever be on par with being a Mum, so remember your value every day.
